I was very excited when the mixer arrived. Even though it was a Christmas gift for my wife, we decided to utilize it for our holiday baking. I have had past experience using the KitchenAid Pro series and found the Artisan to be less robust than I was expecting. While it did a fine job mixing the various types of dough we have made, it seems to labor with the denser types. That being said, I would recommend this series for anyone who does occasional baking. If you have need for a stand mixer more than once or twice a week then I suggest that you consider the Pro series.
