A plastic attachment is included that's supposed to fix the problem, but it doesn't. It is a two piece gadget that comes apart too easily, and its tilt it not sufficient to get ingredients into the bowl without the use of a spatula. The planetary mixing action misses the center of the bowl and does not get close to the edges, making for LOTS of stopping, lifting the head and scraping the sides, all while balancing the plastic tilty gadget to keep it from falling into your mixture.

It barely has enough power to make usng the dough hooks worthwhile, and without the head securely locked, the thing rears up at the slightest load. However, it does look really good sitting on the kitchen counter. If you like to cook, this mixer only frustrates. It's really Amazon I'm giving 5 stars - when I got this mixer upon first use it made an odd metal on metal sound in the lower gears, the head "wobbled" and had a strong burning plastic smell. It was yuck at first sight when I first crossed paths with a Kitchenaid stand mixer in a cooking class. There's something about the aesthetics that really bug me about this machine and I bought a food processor and an immersion blender for a total of $220 to avoid the need for this type of machine. And if I was going to get this type of machine, I had decided I would get a non Kitchenaid with a glassbowl and less repulsive looking head or an Electrolux assistant if I became some kind of bread maker.

I bought this because
(1) my kitchenaid food processor would hop when mixing bread dough (one cup of flour!)
(2) $167.11 is a good price even though red, blue and black were the only colors - I knew that this machine would be useful to me
and the real reason
(3) the electic pasta extruder would help me make chinese dough recipes from Eileen Yin-Fei Lo's cookbooks

My family is happy expecting better breads and other goodies but all I want are homemade dumpling wrappers and super flattened Northern Chinese breads. But this machine means I will now be able to make lump free (ew) cream cheese frosting for cupcakes and cream butter with sugar or eggs by machine rather than manually.

I would never have gotten this at its regular $300 price or even at $200 but the double promo discounts pushed the price close to a cheaper but poorly rated Sunbeam and I really wanted the pasta extruder. Sigh. If I end up loving this machine, I will have to amend this review. The red matches my knife block and my isi soda siphon and cream whipper and I cleared a space for it on my counter just as if I really wanted this machine all along and as if red not white or wasabi is the color for me. I don't have to see the side profile of the machine from where it is placed and I have the other red items grouped around it so it's one bunch of red that the mixer doesn't lock the eyes.

It's not as gigantic as the one I remember from the cooking school which was the original design. This bowl has a flat bottom so it can rest on the counter. I was scolded for not paying $400 for the Professional model but this one has planetary motion and I still don't believe that these machines are worth their suggested retail prices. The sale supposed to be through tomorrow but I see that only the Cobalt Blue is still available at this special price.

This not that big but somewhat heavy machine was delivered in its original box without an extra brown box to protect it. I found it in the rain; the box can't be kept and the machine did get wet. There's really nothing included in the box to reflect what a heavy decision this mixer purchase is to many people - no leather bound manual or ceremonious unpacking process. It came with the small hooks (everything was smaller than I expected), the whisk must be hand washed(!), there is the registration card and a brief trilingual manual and some recipes. I also got a complimentary packet of Splenda which I will discard unopened.

I purchased the Empire Red Artisan for $199.99 minus a $25 Amazon discount. I rated it 4 stars because of 2 minor quirks. First, the bowl was stuck when I tried to take it out of the mounting. It took a little bit of muscle power to turn it but I eventually got it loose and off. It has not gotten stuck again and hopefully will not do do in the future.

The other quirk is the power lever. It seems a bit stuck too when I try to turn it on. So I have to use muscle power again and the lever ends up on 8 and the contents of my bowl go flying. Once I have the machine turned on, the lever moves smoothly.

Other than that, I love this machine! It takes less time than a hand mixer. I know with all the other reviews for this mixer, you won't need mine to decide weither or not to buy one for yourself, but, still, I was a little hesitant myself.

First, price aside, knowing now about this mixer, price is no longer an issue, it's worth whatever you pay for it.

I finally got one, and justified it as, "Well, this is a Christmas present... to myself," but again, this mixer doesn't need justification, it's just absolutely amazing.

I used it for the first time, the other night, to mix my cheeses for lasagna. This step usually included me with a large bowl, a large spoon, and my arthritis hurting after the first 10 minutes. Especially when I have to do things like add salt, or basil, garlic or other seasonings, and have to make sure it's completely moxed again, before I can taist it, and continue this step over and over, usually taking about 20 minutes to make sure it's all mixed with the seasonings, and I'm pleased.

Anyway, I put all the cheses and standard seasonings into the mixing bowl, put the head down, and turned it on. I have to admit, I was a little scared that the bowl wasn't big enough, but trust me, it is. It's bigger than it seems in the pictures, and even at home, it's bigger than it looks, until you fill it up with stuff, then you realize how much it holds. Well, back to the mixing, I put the head down, turned it on 3, and within the first 5 seconds, the cheeses were blended, the eeggs were already mixed in, along with the basil, garlic, salt and pepper on top. This thing did just as much in five seconds, as it normally takes me 5 minutes in a bowl.

I won't bore everyone with more detail, but I will say, that I've been cooking for nearly 20 years now, so I know my way around a kitchen, and my only regret is not buying this mixer sooner.

I'm a perfectionist, especially when i comes to cooking, and this mixer allows me to be a perfectionist, quicker, faster, and actually, better.

I just can't tell you enough, how much you need this in your kitchen. If you think that your hand mixer does the same job, or is good enough, then don't bother buying this, because you won't appreciate things like the ability to have both hands free, or you won't notice things like if your cake is silky smooth, or notice things like, if the seasonings are incorporated into every bit of the recipe, instead of just on the food that your hand mixer will reach, and you probably think it's common for some bites to taist better than others, or some bites to be more overpowering than others, and you won't appreciate this. However, if you truly want to be a better cook, and have your food turn out better, you will buy this.


Well, I hate to make this review even longer, but after using my mother's mixer that she got for Christmas, I figured I'd throw in one more advantage of this mixer... it's ease of use for those with arthritis. I was noticing on hers, that you had to push down a button with strength, to release the attachments, while this you just push up, and turn. Another great advantage is, with hers, you had to push in a button on the side, with force, and lift up, while it pinched your finger since it was placed where the hinge is, while this one, you just push back the lever, and lift up.
