Until recently, baking was something that I did very occasionally and a handheld mixer was a clunky but adequate solution. More recently, I thought I would try my hand and doing more baking as well as preparing more complex recipes and that inexpensive handheld just didn't seem up to the task. Enter KithcenAid and the rock solid Artisan series.
This machine is incredibly smooth in its operation and very easy to use. I am happy to say that the advice I found in reviews here on Amazon led me to adjust the mixer height right when I took it out of the box. This is definitely worth while as some of them, including mine, do seem to ship with a bit more room than you would want between the mixer and the bottom of the bowl. The good news is that it takes 1 minute to fix and is extremely easy to do.
There's no question that the Artisan is an excellent piece of equipment. It's rock solid and works beautifully. The bowl is nice and tall which will help minimize splatter even without using the included shield. The number of speeds available is more than adequate and the Artisan is easy to operate.
