About me. Aircraft technician for 23 years, I love to cook, I am a perfectionist and, I hate cheap tools. I purchased this mixer as a to me gift for christmas. On New Years day I thought I would break it in by baking a red velvet cake. While mixing the light and fluffy frosting I heard something let loose in the mixer and in a instant there was a spark and than the circut breaker blew. Well I was able to frost my cake and than my attention was turned to this 200 dollar tool I had purchased. I reset the circuit breaker and atempted to run the mixer. It kind of ran but I could tell there was something other than my fluffy frosting holding the 350 watt motor back. Having had alot of expereance taking things apart and being very curious I had to take a look at what made the thing tick. I removed the back cover and it became very clear that this is not the Kitchen Aid stand mixer my mother used to make two cakes a week with when I was a kid. You would think that for over 200 dollars the machine would have some sort of solid state speed control. I was very surprised to see a very cheap looking reostat devise that looks like it came out of my old electric race car set speed controller that I had as a kid. What a disapointmant. The part that came apart was some sort of spring roller clip on the motor shaft. When it let loose it got stuck in the reostat and shorted the thing out. The reasons I am writting this review are 1. This mixer has almost a five star satisfaction rating. This rating influenced my purchase. 2. Kitchen Aid is living off an American made tradition of high quality. This mixer is not American made and the quality is low. 3. As a consumer I am tired of companies main concern being the bottom line. I would gladly pay more for solidstate construction. In conclusion this mixer may do the job its intended to do but don't be surpised if it breaks down. After all why would there be so many remanufactored units for sale if there wasn't a quality problem. Amazon . com will be getting this unit back and hopefully the replacement will hold together a little longer than the first.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

Where To Buy KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red
I'm sure just about everyone has heard that Kitchen Aides are a fabulous accessory to the kitchen. I agree. This is a good, solid, powerful machine and is very effective at what it is built to do--mix stuff. I do have one complaint, however. The speed control shows "Off/0, Stir 2 4 6 8 10" which would lead one to think that there are 10 distinct speeds. There are not. First of all, there are little "stops" at each number, but none in between so what would make more sense is "0 Stir 2 3 4 5 6". Second, there really isn't any speed difference between what is marked as 8 and 10, so really our modified numbering system should stop at 5, not 6. This is a really little thing and does not detract from the overall quality of the mixer itself; it just feels deceptive to me and so I don't like it. This aside, however, it is a great mixer.
I have been told that the attachments make the mixer even more useful and versatile. I looked into this a bit, but I was surprised to find out that the cost of these attachments can be as much as getting a separate meat grinder, pasta press, cheese greater, etc. I suspect the real advantage is that these attachments save space.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

I have owned my KitchenAid mixer for about nine years now and have had no problems with it at all. It makes easy work of routine chores such as whipping potatoes, mixing batter and kneading bread dough, and encourages the taking on of more ambitious projects as well. The 325 watt motor has ample power for most amateur cooks. Persons who plan to use their mixer to make many or large batches of bread might benefit from the larger, more powerful model that features a spiral dough hook, which does a superior job of kneading dough. I borrowed my best friend's a few months ago and started using it for EVERYTHING! So I got one for Christmas and have used it a ton already. I got on the Kitchenaid website and bought an extended warranty for mine which was only 33.00 for 3 years. Just love mine, and it is so appealing to the eye too. Am planning to buy the three piece attachment set, I do agree with others that it is expensive but I would like to get the most out of my mixer and don't mind paying extra for good quality!Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Review
I received this as a gift. I love to bake but really only get an opportunity to use my KA once a week. That said, I have had a problem with the small amount of oil from the machinery leaking out of the head of it (I can always wipe oil off of it before baking). I called their customer service and was told that this happens when the machine is not turned on a lot...that the oil seeps into the head and leaks out. WHAT?!?! Sure, it is food grade oil (meaning one can eat it and not get poisoned)but I do not like seeing it in my freshly ground meat or spotting my kneaded bread dough.
Now, before mixing anything, I will turn the machine on for a few minutes to get the oil back up where it belongs as per the directions of the friendly customer service person. She assured me that it was okay-that seeing more than a cup full of oil was bvad but this small amount was ok. (um...ok) That still does not do the trick-I still see oil. During the month of December, I used this mixer almost every day and still had the problem. For what was paid for the Artisan, I should not have to worry about "food grade oil" seeping into my food! Not only that but it cannot be good for the gear assembly for the levels of oil to be constantly seeping out.
After calling several other KA owners and being told they do NOT have this problem, I am going to call KA back and ask for a replacement.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Top Quality
For years and years, I wanted one of these mixers, but always thought, too big, too expensive, I'll wait... When I finally bought the Artisan style at a great price on Amazon, I thought I might be disappointed after so much anticipation. But this mixer is terrific. It's even better than I could have imagined. Powerful, easy-to-use, attractive, easy clean up. I baked every night for a month at first because it is so effortless with this mixer. What a difference this makes after years of handhelds that splatter everywhere, tire my arm, overheat. Has there ever been anyone who wasn't delighted with their KitchenAid mixer? These beasts are the standard for mixing, whether it's the tabletop mixers so many of us enjoy, the big Hobart-labeled version found in bakeries, or the *really* big Hobart mixers used to prepare rocket fuel at Thiokol and similar companies.
My particular KitchenAid was purchased by my mother around 1964, and passed on to me around ten years ago. I think it's been serviced once in those 40 years. Try that with any other brand!Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Best Quality
My husband gave me my own KitchenAid Artisan mixer several years ago, but for years I had been using the Kitchen Aid stand mixer that was given to my mom and dad as a wedding gift in 1946. And, believe it or not, that almost 60 year old mixer still works and I sometimes use both of them at one time when I have a large amount of cooking to do. Even though I've had good service from our "heirloom" as I call it, I had always wanted my own that I could use as my own personal workhorse in the kitchen. If someone enjoys cooking and baking, these mixers are the best you can buy and are worth every penny. I've never found better equipment for making the cakes and frostings that I'm famous for in my family and I think I've covered the gamut of celebrations from birthday's to my son's groom's cake thanks to our Kitchen Aid mixers. And, let's not even talk about mashed potatoes and other yummy stuff. While it's often said that husbands shouldn't give kitchen items to their wives for gifts, a Kitchen Aid item in the cobalt blue (which goes with my kitchen) is for me an appreciated gift that is as decorative as it is practical. My cobalt blue mixer was the start of my own still growing collection of KitchenAid small appliance. The blender and mini-chopper are also excellent buys. Another thing I like about KitchenAid, is the appliances are made in the USA. And, if you need to talk to customer service (which I did only once and that was because of my own error, not a problem with the appliance,) you talk to someone in the US. No need to try to decipher accented English that inevitably leads to confusion and disappointing service. It's wonderful to see an American company keep its jobs at home.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Get it now!
I got my Kitchenaid at the end of November, 2004, and it's wonderful! Mixing up a batch of cookies now takes no time whatsoever. Even for more labor-intensive recipes, I'm pretty much done in fifteen minutes.
As suggested in one of the online articles I read, I selected a permanent location in my kitchen for my Kitchenaid prior to its arrival and, even now, when I'm not using it, I have to admit to casting a doting glance or two in its direction. I went with the standard white, and thought before receiving it, that I was going to be bored with it, since it's not one of the more intriguing colors. Now that I have it, though, the color doesn't even make a difference - white works with my kitchen, but even if it didn't, I'll NEVER part with my Kitchenaid!
I got the best price I've seen anywhere, on Amazon for my Kitchenaid. If you find it at a price that's good for you, don't hesitate if you've been wanting one - buy it!! You won't regret it!Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Decide Now
I've been wanting one of these for years. The free shipping and rebate made Amazon a good deal. So for my birthday, I went for it. Now I'm wondering why I waited so long. Granted, you probably won't use this everyday. It still beats dealing with a wobbly bowl and a hand mixer.
There are a lot more color options available on Amazon too. I just had to have the tangerine mixer. If that doesn't suit your fancy, there are a bunch of other choices available. I also decided against the refurbished model. I'd rather spend the extra $$ for a new machine. I figure this is an investment that will last a lifetime.
The one complaint or caution i have is that the mixers don't go entirely to the bottom of the bowl. You need to mix things a little by hand when you're done. Otherwise, you'll have some unmixed goods at the very bottom. It's still a great machine and worth every penny.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Right now
In February, an Onyx Black KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer joined its cousin the KitchenAid food processor in my kitchen. All I can say is WHY oh why did I wait so long? (OK, I know, it is because I am thrifty to the bone, the curse of my Scottish ancestry.)
Sensibly timing my purchase for arrival during a few vacation days, in just the first 10 days of ownership, I've made cookies, more cookies, cakes, whipped egg whites, bread dough, more bread dough, pizza dough, and oh-so-sticky English Muffin dough. The mixer excelled in every use, and once the head is locked down, very successfully kneaded the bread, English muffin and pizza doughs without walking across the counter - my old Sunbeam was an accomplished walker, not a great feature in a mixer.
I read the reviews, and as yet have seen none of the few problems reported by others. I did adjust the height of the paddle to better scrape the bottom of the bowl - a simple adjustment not requiring anything more than a screwdriver (although you probably could use a dime) and most importantly, to have READ the directions.
My mixer came with the pouring shield and dough hook, paddle, and wire whip attachments. The pouring shield is a bit cumbersome and I probably won't use much, but for those who find a bit of flour on the counter a problem, it might be useful. I find it a bit annoying that the wire whip is not supposed to go in the dishwasher. I have concluded this is because the base of the whip is made from aluminum, which dishwasher detergent will discolor.
The only thing I do wish it had is a light, as the aforementioned Sunbeam Mixmaster had. I didn't think I would miss it, but the kitchen in my antique Cape is awaiting a lighting upgrade, and it's dark in the bowl without that light. The instruction/recipe booklet that with the mixer is lame. I mean really, really lame. Skip those recipes and go directly to the bookstore section for [James] Beard on Bread, The King Arthur Flour Baker's Companion: The All-Purpose Baking Cookbook, or any one of the other great books on baking and bread at Amazon.
Nonetheless, my KitchenAid seems to be a great mixer, and lo-carb diets be damned, I'm going full-carb ahead. Please pass the butter.
***March 14 update: Over the weekend, while making a cake, the mixer began to squeak loudly, getting worse as time went on. Not a good noise.... Today I called the customer satisfaction phone line and a new mixer is on its way, no questions asked, at no cost to me.
I am pleased there was no hassle with a replacement, but the very fact that I needed one is making me wonder what is up with the Artisan model.... Should I have opted for a bigger mixer? I would lower my star rating to 3 based on this experience.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

I purchased this with great anticipation after reading all the praise from past reviewers. Therefore, I am very surprised to find the machine so difficult to use and clean. The plastic guard is tricky to put in place, but essential because otherwise the food will be all over the counter, instead of in the mixing bowl.
I cannot get any of the beaters to actually get the lumps out of mashed potatoes. My old hand mixer does a better job.

My appliance broke within 5 minutes of use. Called KitchenAid customer service -- they answered my call promptly, arranged deliver for a new unit without giving me a hard time, sent the unit immediately (received in 4 days), and picked up the old unit; no cost to me. That turned a frustrating moment into a 5 star review.
The replacement has worked flawlessly for 3 weeks now.
I'm a novice at baking breads (I bought this primarily as a dough mixer), but my very first experiments (rolls and pizza crusts) turned out 200% better than the bread machine -- which will go in the next garage sale. Dough still requires a little bit of hand rolling after mixing, but it's 10% the energy required, if even that much.
The wisk did not perform well on my eggs... hand wisking is still better, but hardly important. I also got the pasta maker accessory. It takes a couple practice rounds, but then it's fun and easy.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

Cheap KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red
I don't want this review to be full of teenage angst. My sister's were all married before me and received this as a christmas gift. I didn't get one. After reading the description.. I was drooling for one. I lived with one of my sister's and really got to know this appliance. Being in a very large family.. there is alot of baking that goes on at christmas. The mixer had a great trial by fire. Over 400 large cookies later (yes, in one day.. one right after the next).. the mixer was doing fine. After a few cakes, the mixer was still kicking it. It was pretty warm, but didn't overheat during this stress period. We even had 2 bowls going (you can buy a second bowl for the mixer). This mixer really did it's job. Supurb. No complaints from me or my sisters. They've had the mixer for about 10 years.
We often (during non peak seasons), put a bowl of cookie dough in the fridge or freezer (depends on the kinda' week it's going to be)... and have a few fresh cookies whenever. Since we have a second bowl.. you can still have your fresh bread with dinner.
For some reason, everyone includes the color on here... ours was white.
I was also amused that someone got their mixer replaced fast and without hassle. This made them nervous and want to rate to product lower. I'm sad that of many people.. they had a problem with their mixer. Complaining that the company was too nice.. which made them nervous about the mixer and then wanting to rate it lower even though the experience was mostly pleasant. Maybe she needed to be yelled at or ignored for a better experience.
My life wasn't changed by this mixer.
Negatives..
- I hate washing anything with a wire whip. If you stick it in the diswasher it discolors a bit... (see above on covering mixer if you spaz on colors).
- If you over fill it you'll need to use the splash guard.
Good
- It really makes life easy if you've got alot going on in the kitchen. Without one.. there aren't times when I go.. how about I just whip up a batch of carrot cookies.. because it would take forever. With one.. I did all the time. Ask my sister :) When I first started using it.. I think her husband suddenly learned what "thin" jeans and "not so thin" jeans were for a few weeks.
- It's not hard to clean. I love my food processor.. but it's got to be a pretty interesting recipe for me to be convinced to get it out because of the cleaning. This machiene is actually pretty easy. I'm also not the kind of person who cleans their dish rack more than once every 2 weeks.. and shock of all schocks.. it remains on my counter alot.
- All of the attachments are easy to get and replace. I see alot of reviews for other products.. that if something is lost.. it's lost forever, but not with this company. They've been making these for awhile... everything's easy. If you need another pouring shild.. you can have it off amazon in a few days. Whatever.
I hope someone gets it for me soon.. I'm not picky about when.. the wedding, birthday, christmas.. someone.. anyone...bulerGet more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

Buying KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red
I got this mixer about a month ago. I've wanted one for years, but always talked myself out of it (too expensive, too big, etc.) After finding a great deal here on Amazon, I finally caved in and let me say, I'm glad I did. I love this mixer! I was worried I wouldn't use it very much, since I already have a very nice bread machine (a "Zo"). I find that I'm using it all the time though. It really is like having an extra pair of hands in the kitchen. Cookie dough is so much easier. I'm also making bread with it constantly. It's just so simple to throw the ingredients in the mixer and let it do all the kneading. I've been making fresh bread and bagels every week and it's been no hassle. It handles the dough very well and stays put. It's a big heavy machine. The only problem I was having with it was I was finding it very difficult to remove the bowl to clean it after I was done mixing something. My husband suggested rubbing some vaseline on the bottom edge and that has solved the problem completely. Now I can pop the bowl off with one hand. Anyway, if you've been wanting one of these and if you like to bake at all, do youself a favor and get one. You will be amazed at how much easier it will make your life. I finally replaced my 18 year old Sunbeam mixer with this incredible KitchenAid machine and I am in heaven! I've rekindled my interest in cooking and have purchased a number of KitchenAid attachments for it and am tickled pink with the results. It's great to be able to set something to mix and be able to walk away and work on getting the next part of the recipe ready. I love the job it does kneading, too! The mixer size is just right...not to big...not too small. Initially I went a little wild and ordered one size up from this only to get downstairs and measure and realize that it was not going to fit on the counter under my wall cabinets. Came back up to the computer, cancelled that and ordered the Artisan instead. What a machine!Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Review
Heaven knows what took me so long to get around to buying a REAL mixer (not a hand mixer) and let me tell you IT'S MORE THAN WORTH THE MONEY!!! I had previously purchased a C**sinart food processor and was disappointed in how useful it really was -- my KitchenAid, however, has constantly surprised me with how powerful and useful it is! It's like having a trustworthy assistant in the kitchen, someone you can hand simple, tedious jobs to and know that they'll be taken care of! And as much as I enjoy doing things with my hands, I have to admit that the job the Artisan does of kneading is superior to my best efforts! This is a FANTASTIC addition to a working kitchen. If you live off of frozen food, you don't need it, but if you love to cook, this will seem like a Godsend. I opted for a "Tangerine" color mixer, and it really brightens up the kitchen -- you don't have to settle for white or beige. Live it up, life is short.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Top Quality
The KitchenAid stand mixer I received is a gorgeous piece of kitchen machinery! The motor is powerful and works smoothly to mix heavy batter and dough. I love the color, which is a delicous buttery yellow - very satisfying to behold sitting in its queenly fashion on the kitchen counter. Why not have machines that are lovely to look at as well as lovely to use? Kitchen machinery does not have to be utilitarian-looking!
The quality of the workmenship of this mixer is top-notch, and I know I will get many, many years of satisfying use from this item. Although not inexpensive, when looked at over the "long haul," the cost is more than reasonable. This mixer will likely be a "once-in-a-lifetime" purchase! KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red This instant
Kitchen Aid mixers have been available for so many years, and we tend to forget their older mixers. The tilt-head and bowl-lift models available now are using the very deep and narrow bowls available for the last twenty-five years or so following the demise of their smaller line. The efficiency of the planetary mixing action is good for most items. These machines are relatively inexpensive, good and heavy on a counter, and come in all sorts of interesting colors now. It isn't the best for heavy doughs like bread (the European Bosch and Electrolux mixers are much better). Maida Heatter has an interesting and valid viewpoint when she states the Sunbeam or other mixers with two bowls are better for cakes--she even takes hers cross-country when she demonstrates! I have eight mixers for different uses, and didn't replace my last K'Aid when it burned out. It remains a good all-round choice for the light duty it'll get in the average kitchen, and the attachments are cheap compared to the competition. Not of the quality found in their past mixers, but few things are! Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.
