I've had a kitchenaid mixer for about 4 years, and just recently the second transmission that I've gone through has started making strange noises. Due to the mixer being out of warranty I called their customer service number hoping that they'd understand my frustration and offer to repair or replace it for free as I've already had transmission problems in the past. They didn't. Instead they gave me the number of a local service place and told me I'd have to food the bill. I paid $300 for this mixer because I was under the impression that it was a quality product that would last me a long time. I will certainly not be replacing this mixer (when it dies soon) with another Kitchenaid product. The frist time I used a stand mixer was a few years ago. I borrowed one from my mother inlaw.This machine was wonderful, saved on time and on my hands. I did alot of baking which my hands would hurt after I got done. With this I bake many different things and my hands do not hurt.I baked alot of mini breads for X-Mas to give as gifts.I was done before I knew it. Now the only thing that I had to do was clean up, pack and deliver the goodies.I had to have one so" I bought this before X-Mas and used it right away.
I broke the gear worm in my Mother Inlaws mixer which I fixed.I took this apart myself. You can fix this on your own. Do not buy a new machine. The part is plaistic and may strip during use.I love this mixer.

I have had the white one since October of 2007, and I love it to death!! I use it for everything.. if it needs mixing, it goes in this. I use it several times a week, every week. I have never had a single problem with it. I even accidentally dropped a long-handled metal spoon it the bowl once; it bent the spoon into a twisted mess.. and not even a scratch on the mixer!! I was using the whipping attachment, and I can't find a single hint of damage. Very heavy duty, very simple to use, disassembles for easy cleaning.. well worth the money! I purchased this mixer over a year ago and have only used it a hand full of times for cakes, cookies, or whipping cream.
Today i finally tried making bread dough, the machine on medium speed shook and jumped all over the counter, i turned it off and upon looking into the bowl i notice dark fragment and dark specs all over the top of the paddle and bowl, including my dough. I called Kitchen Aid and was assured that they had no clue as to would be wrong and because the warranty was finished i needed to take the machine 3 hours to the nearest repair store. The fragments and dust are metal and dried grease. This is ridiculous and because of the shaking that the machine did the bowl is now stuck into the mixer and will not twist off.....

The machine did a fine job this holiday season (2008) with cookies and cakes. In fact, I think it is the best machine for making these baking products. Many recipes call for placing ingredients in a mixer with the flat beater, which probably means a KitchenAid mixer.

But don't even try using it for bread. This is my 4th mixer (Ultra Power through Professional 6), and I have burned out the motors on each one making breads. It cannot withstand the power needed to make and knead bread doughs, whether white or multi-grain, nor can it take making multiple recipes in one baking session. For that, I recommend the Electrolux Assistent.

I purchased the mixer at the end of October 2008. I thoroughly enjoyed it until Christmas Eve. The head would no longer lock into place. It was bouncing up and down. I called Kitchen Aid customer service on 12/26 and received a replacement today on 1/2/2009. I love their customer service and the product.
