It whips cream in 2 minutes (chill the bowl first), but can also handle heavy dough or batter, like breads, without any strain on it's motor. The main reason I bought this mixer was because I wanted the whole retro-appliance look for my kitchen. I was actually less concerned with how it works.

The "ICE" color is absolutely gorgeous. It's a pitch-perfect tint of 1950's turquoise--my new favorite color. It looks great with the pink Kitchenaid blender, which I also bought.

I would have awarded 5 stars just for the look, but I have used the mixer, and while it does a good job so far, it is noisy. The low speeds have a particularly unsettling grinding sound to them. Evidently, this is common, reading the other reviews.

The problem with residue on the sides and bottom is mostly fixed when the center screw is adjusted clockwise, tilting the angle of the beater downward. Still, it would be nice to have more flexibility when mixing instead of having to leave the bowl locked down.

Okay I'll admitt it. The main reason I wanted this is because it matches all the other kitchen aid stuff I have :) But besides that I have only owned handheld mixers and used a full size one like this at my mil's house and found out what I was missing. I recived this as a gift from my mom which is good b/c it's expensive. It's very durable. I have a small kitchen and it's gotten banged into with other pots and pans and shoved around in the cabinet space. No scratches looks and works the same as the day I got it. I forgot what it was like using a stand mixer to mix cake, cookies etc since I have been using a hand mixer for quite sometime now. This Artisan mixer is really worth every dollar. Seems very well built and heavy duty, and fits well on my counter, where it will remain since I will be using it very often.

I save sooooo much time mixing now, the mixer is much quieter than my hand mixer, and the results so much better. No problems with ingredients sticking at the bottom, everything mixes in very well. I looked at other brands and decided on this one based on the reviews.
ANd I got this at $199 less the $25 discount - that's a deal.
It arrived before the date stated by Amazon. Good service.
Cons -

The main problem is that I do find that the bowl is rather small, for such a big and powerful mixer, and someone like me who bakes alot. I made a batch of coconut sweet bread recently - about 1lb butter, then almost couldn't get all of the ingredients in. It was filled to the very top, and I had to stir the final half of the flour in by hand. This type of quantity is what I like baking regularly, since I give to my friends and family, and I love baking large amounts, so the bowl is a bit of a problem.

I was also a bit disappointed that the color was not as bright a red as I expected. The photos and the box shows a different shade to the actual item. But I can live with that little hitch.

I would have given five stars, except for the small bowl. So 4 to 4 1/2 is my rating.

I love this mixer!! My Hamilton Beach mixer broke after 3 years of use, and I have enjoyed the upgrade to the KitchenAid. The price for this one was absolutely the best I have seen. Everywhere else it was around $300- maybe $239 on a major sale but Amazon had it for $174! It has done a beautiful job with everything I have thrown at it- and I love to cook. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is b/c I haven't tested the dough hook yet.
