This purchase was actually a gift for my daughter. However, I am happy to report that she is absolutely thrilled with the Artisan Mixer. She bakes something almost every day and she says the mixer is the finest she has ever used. KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Top Quality
I have previously used an Accolade (the ex got it - ha ha ha) and recently decided to buy my own KitchenAide Mixer. I got a deal on this with the Amazon "Save $25 on $125" promo (that seems to be forever ongoing) AND a $25 rebate from the manufacturer (do an iternet search for rebates). Think I paid less than $125 for it.
It is perfect for making my homemade bird suet, cookie dough, mixing cakes, kneading bread etc.
The only drawback I can find is that the "better" Accolade item has a nifty handle that raises and lowers the mixer's head. I miss that. Also, this Artisan model doesn't have the holder arm device that the bowl rests on that you can raise and lower - instead the Artisan's mixing bowl kind of "screws/locks" onto the base - not as handy to remove, when your hands may be greasy from kitchen chores -- as you have to grip the handle of the mixing bowl and then use your other hand to steady the base -- so you can unscrew it.
Overall -- the Accolade is far better from a design point of view - but it IS also MUCH more expensive. I'll stick happily with this model and know that I took my "ex's favorite" chocolate chip cookie recipe written by his mother -- with me when I left - Ha! He may have got the mixer - but the "dough" is mine! Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red This instant
I got the Artisan about a month ago. Just in time for the holidays. I've made an untold number of cookie batches already and no matter what I throw at it, the mixer handles it beautifully. I got it with the Mixer Bible. It just makes sense to spend the extra $13.00 since it's such a great intro to the machine. The book gives all kinds of helpful tips and over 300 great recipes. I bought this mixer as a Christmas gift for my wife. She has always wanted one and given that Amazon had it in stock at a great price I simply couldn't resist.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Get it now!
Admittedly, I was hesitant about dropping almost $300 on a MIXER, but since my wife has been asking for one for quite awhile I took the plunge. Not only did I get a good discounted price from Amazon, but when it arrived we were both very impressed at the quality and expandability this unit has. It has quite a few peripherals for shredding, slicing, etc. as well as making your own pasta and even *shudder* "sausage"... (eek...) In any event, it all works great and it's an excellent unit for the price.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.

KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red Buy Now
I got my mixer about a year ago and still love it. I got it in Wasabi green and everyone comments on how cool it looks. I spent the first 10 months baking away, making batches of cookie dough, bread and cakes galore. The mixer handled everything I threw at it (or in it) beautifully. Going from a hand held to this is a huge step up. Just a couple of months ago I got The Mixer Bible because I thought the baking chapters looked good. There were also recipes I didn't think I'd need that required attachments. I worked through a bunch of cakes and cookies from the book and I thought they were great, but I was intriqued with some of the attachment recipes too, so I bought the food grinder and eventually the pasta roller. Both attachments are worth owning. Making pasta in the mixer and then rolling it out is a snap, and I'm now doing something I never thought I'd do..... grinding my own meat. I know it sounds gross, but isn't more gross not to know what is ground up in all that meat you buy at the grocery store? Anyway, the mixer, the attachments and The Mixer Bible are now the most active tools in my kitchen.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.
