I cannot possibly express how awesome this machine is. It makes cooking and baking SO much easier. No killing your arm mixing by hand, no scraping or turning the bowl- it does all the work for you. For example: I decided to try making mashed potatos with it- I've always done them by hand, and they're such a pain. Well, I tossed the potatos, butter and milk in the bowl, turned the machine on and walked away for a couple minutes... I came back and they were done. Perfect, fluffy, lump-free mashed potatos. I put off purchasing the Artisan Mixer due to the price. However, Amazon has the most discounted price around that I could find. I am very pleased with the mixer. I use it to mix cookie dough often and it never struggles. I love that I can turn it on and throw in the ingredients and it does all the work. It also has a stir speed so when I am making oatmeal raisin or chocolate chip I can even mix in those large ingredients without chopping them all into little pieces. Also the shield is a priceless addition to this model. The other Kitchen Aid mixers don't have this shield included with them but the Artisan does and actually that (along with the 325 W motor) was my reason for choosing this one! I can pour in flour and turn it up! With a hand mixer flour would be all over the kitchen, but not with this mixer! I would definitely purchase again, only I would have bought it years ago! I have only had this machine for a month, but it has done everything I hoped off. I've baked bread and other goodies without any problem.It is very convenient to use and easy to clean.
My only complaint is that Amazon plays with the price too much and I settled for the chrome color when I really wanted red, which was $100 more expensive when I ordered mine. Two weeks later the red stand mixer's price had dropped to the price of the chrome one. This is a great mixer at a GREAT price!! My husband bought the identical mixer for me at Christmas for $299. I paid $169. I bought some of the attachments that go on it and I love it. I highly recommend this for the average cook. I guess there is a heavier duty model if you make alot of bread, which I do not.
