I had (have) a "B" series Kitchen Aid circa 1947-50 that works great but was not nice to look at. I recieved my new model Artisan and it is a work of art. It looks great on my counter-top (I used to put the old one away after I was done). As a mixer, nothing compares to Kitchen Aid. I have used it for mashed potatoes, cakes and pizza dough so far and it is awesome. The bowl locks in place, although don't tighten it too much-it really locks!! It is powerful and quiet. You may have to scrape the bottom of the mixing bowl with a rubber spatula to ensure you mix all of the ingredients, but that is with any mixer. And now they come in colors! I highly recommend this mixer and it is a great wedding/house gift. I still have my old one, I'm keeping that one too. It's almost 60 years old!
