I bought the KitchenAid KSM150PSBU Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer in Cobalt Blue last Christmas form Amazon for $199.99 that also came with a free smaller mixing bowl and timer. The mixer is great and such a dream to use. I love home made chocolate chip cookies cause the chips stay gooey and you can't buy cookies like that in stores. I hated to make them with my old hand mixer but this now is amazing. All you do is drop in the ingredients and let the mixer do the rest. Everything mixes just right, butter to sugar and flour are perfect. Only thing i do by hand is mix in the chips and nuts. I found it mixes things at the sides and bottom fine but like even hand mixers you still need to scrap but after you do just turn it on and way it goes. With two kids in the house it was time to upgrade from the $99 mixer and had our eye on this. With the color choices it was a no brainer. For us it was Grape....at first (having a brown kitchen) would that look...perfect!!!

I like the fact that it is so fast to make cupcakes, bread, pasta, cakes, cookies, anything for the kids. They love having treats and I actually get more time to do things with my wife.

First, the mixer works great. Everything most home-bakers could ever want. But I strongly suggest you select a smooth finish. I got the Krinkle Gray. (Don't know if thats still available.) It looks very 'professional', but it's hard to keep clean. After the first batch of bread dough, the mixer was nearly white, and it took some serious scrubbing to get the flour off the textured surface.

As to the mechanics of the mixer itself, very few complaints. The tilt-head makes it possible to remove the bowl without dismantling the beater (unlike the lift-bowl models). I mainly use the dough hook, and have found that the motor tends to bog down just a bit on extremely heavy doughs. But as I always do the final kneading by hand anyway, its not a major issue; just a little more hand work.

If I ever buy another stand mixer, it will definately be a KitchenAid. Thing is, this mixer will probably outlast me by decades.

If you love to bake, this gadget is by far the best thing you need to own in your kitchen. I just bought my first kitchen aid mixer in cobalt blue (awesome color!) and since I've had it, its been non-stop baking. For one, I got it for a great deal (the best deal) of 156 dollars including tax and shipping. I've priced it everywhere and it can go over two hundred fifty dollars. Amazon shipped it to me in two days without charging extra on a quicker shipment. But the best part of it is, I can leave the mixer going while I have my hands free to wash dirty dishes, put away the ingredients, have less dishes to wash, and the list goes on. For years, I've been wanting this mixer and now that I have one, I don't know why I was dumb enough not to have one. This Christmas I'm saving money on baking for my friends and family. I think from now on I am going to bake for presents. Baking is a whiz with my mixer -- you have to own one until you really figure out what I'm talking about.
