and I finally broke down and got one. I love it, for my needs it works great. After reading the reviews there are obviously LEMON machines though. So far mine has worked perfectly.
First piece of advice READ THE MANUAL. it clearly states when making bread NEVER go over speed 2 to knead and also states the maximum amount of flour this baby can deal with. Also do the dime test to see if the mixer is adjusted properly. The most helpful review gives explicit instrucions on how to do this. I also suggest buying the attachment that is the mixer spatula blade as it works very well. (not made by kitchen-aid)
The instruction manual gives great instructions on WHAT NOT TO DO, pay attention,if you need to make larger batches go with a bigger mixer.
In my kitchen I have a corner "garage" I put my mixer on a slim cutting board so it slides easily in and out for smaller jobs, for the bigger jobs I pick it up and move it to larger work area. It is heavy, but this works for me.
I have been attempting to make bread for the first time and it has been trial and error, not knowing the right consistency of the dough, I did find a recipe on recipezaar for Earls homemade bread for the kitchenaid and it was very easy and the best one so far, so if you are just getting started try this one as it is good and very easy to make.
I love my mixer and wish I had broken down and bought it sooner, the prices change all the time so watch everday, the best price was 229 with a 20.00 rebate and free shipping and I have been watching for over 2 months. I bought the bayleaf for 240 with free shipping, best price on that color so far, BUT the color it actually is doesn't look like the picture you see. I almost sent it back but I nick named it BIG GREEN so I decided to keep it. last piece of advice if buying a color try looking at it at a store to know what you are actually getting, mine is brighter than I had anticipated. If you a big baker ( and I am not and still use mine lots) then you MUST break down and get one, you won't be sorry.Get more detail about KitchenAid KSM150PSER Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Empire Red.
