Prior to owning this mixer, I had an old Sunbeam. It was nearing its end of use and I always wanted a Kitchenaid so I kept my eye out for a good sale. And then I couldn't believe my eyes--Amazon was selling this mixer for $179. What a great deal! So I ordered it immediately. Since receiving it, I have been thoroughly pleased with it. I use it mostly for my cookie recipes, but I made mashed potatoes with it a few days ago--my old mixer could have never handled this task. I really like the weight of it, no matter the speed, this mixer stays put. The plastic guard is pretty crucial too--the sheer power of this thing tends to send the food upward in the bowl, but the guard keeps everything from making a mess. I haven't used it to make dough yet, but so far, it seems to be able to handle just about anything. The only problem I find is that I think the bowl should be a bit wider.
