A KitchenAid mixer is a must have in the kitchen and I was looking forward to finally adding it to my own. But I was surprised when the box arrived and it was shipped by amazon in the KitchenAid box, no external box, no additional packaging, just the box that you would find on a shelf in a store. After one use, the metal peg that attaches the mixer top to the base came out almost entirely. I had to hammer it back into the base. This, I've been told by other KitchenAid owners, should not* happen.
Also, the new bowls have a lift at the bottom (a little tent-like protrusion that makes the beater and the bowl meet). This is probably designed to make sure that your batter gets fully mixed. The problem with the design is that it makes the machine rattle and move up and down (even when in the lock position) when you add anything to the batter other than flour and eggs. So, for instance, the chocolate chip cookies I make seem to really give the mixer trouble. My mother's mixer--decades old--seems to be a better buy than this one. Perhaps mines is anomolous, but I was unhappy with how Amazon shipped it and have not been completely happy with its performance.
