I have never, ever been excited about a kitchen appliance before, but I had heard all the hype about the Artisan mixer and received one for Christmas last year. It was love at first sight.

Since receiving the mixer, I've been MUCH more interested in cooking. This thing puts my hand mixer to shame and makes baking much easier. I love the wisk and dough hook--I haven't even used my breadmaker for months.

This thing really deserves its reputation. It's sturdy and for a non-professional cook, it definitely gets the job done. The only concern I have is that I might get tired of the color (Willow Blue) or remodel my kitchen several times before it wears out! I bought this mixer as the focal point of my kitchen. I find that I still "hand stir" more than I use this thing. I like it mainly because it sets off my black granite countertops! I have had to work my whole home decor around matching this unit! I have red pillows on my cream couch, and my barstool covers are red! I can't make any decisions regarding decorating unless it goes with this red mixer!!!!!

Actually, the unit works great. I recommend using the splash guard attachment, as ingredients tend to splatter outside the bowl without it. When mixing your cookie dough, remember not to overmix. You don't want your dough too hard. It will ruin the cookies.

My husband is the cook of our family, and he thought I was NUTS to buy the Artisan. He said it would take up counter space and we would never use it.

Well, we've had it over three years now (as of 10/2008), and I threw out 3 or 4 different appliances (including our hand mixer) because this machine does it ALL! We got the pasta attachment, and he no longer has to take extra time off from work to make his own pasta.

I use the juicer to make my own lemonade from fresh lemons ... with NO pain in my shoulder!!!!

We just recently (8/2008) bought the meat grinder/veggie cutter attachments and they are GREAT! We make our own ground chicken, turkey, beef, etc. We save money and get to choose the quality of meat we use.

I made sure to buy the quilted cover for it, and that was DEFINITELY a smart thing. It keeps all the cooking debris (including grease and dust) off the machine, and you can store some of the attachments underneath it. It keeps our counters looking neat. It's machine washable, and if you get the black one make sure to use a detergent that WON'T make the color fade out or bleed (Woolite Dark, for instance) because the cover is made out of cotton.

I've had my KitchenAid for about a month now, and I absolutely love it! I use it all the time. My mashed potatoes have never been so smooth and fluffy, and I made rolls for the first time in my life with great results. I'm right-handed, and unlike other reviewers have not found the speed control difficult to use.
