I found cheaper pricing in some places, but when you look closely, they are for refurbished models or they don't included shipping, and you don't know where they're coming from. Plus, you really have to check out all the models and accessories that it comes with. The one I ordered came straight from KitchenAid, and I was happy with free shipping, since it's such a heavy item. I had originally purchased one for my mother-in-law, but I was so happy with the deal, that I got one for myself too. This is the best price I've found for the Artisan Series, too. Even ebay prices aren't as good, when you figure in shipping and handling. I've had an Artisan for about 1 year and I love it. You can always hear the whir of the motor going in my kitchen with either my wife or I at the helm. We both love to cook. We've used the mixer for primarily baked goods, but love to make homemade pasta too. The dough is fairly stiff and we haven't worn out the engine yet. I tuned into the KitchenAid live forum discussion last week and the guest chefs were the authors of The Mixer Bible. I've had that book for about a month and it's great. The authors said that the Pasta Roller attachment was really worthwhile, so I'm ordering that today since we make so much handmade pasta in our house. The book is really helpful for anyone with a stand mixer. It covers info on standard attachments, plus tons of info and recipes for the optional attachments too. Good investment.
