I've been wanting a big ol' beastie of a stand mixer for awhile now, and my Easter Bunny (ok, my Easter Daddy) was sweet enough to make a present of it. It arrived today, and I think I'm in love. I'm still reeling from the amazing quickness of making a lemon chiffon pie (eggs, crusts, etc). Aside from being adorable, you get amazing power, even on low speeds. The bowl fits securely, and is even easily removed. Likewise, the various beaters switch out easily. And the bowl: HUGE, I'm already picturing myself whipping up fruitcakes in there! I debated for Dayssss on the color. My kitchen is retro-50's-milky-turquiose, and I was afraid this color would look wierd when it arrived. It's actually a PERFECT match to the color of my retro TST dishes! Total smiley-ness. After years of hearing how necessary a stand mixer is we took the plunge. Our hand mixer of many years was defeated by some thick cookie dough.

The 5 quart bowl seems a bit small ( we have double convection ovens so double cookie batches are the norm) and, with cookie and cake dough, there seems to be a dry residue at the bottom of the bowl. It is inconvenient to stop and scrape over and over.

Yesterday we used it to start pizza dough....that was terrific.

This mixer is a good bread dough device but a good hand mixer is still preferred for many batters.

Of course, everyone we know raves about the mixer....maybe we are missing something....or maybe they haven't used a hand mixer!

This KitchenAid mixer is an excellent investment! I just love mine! The dough hook attachment is the greatest invention ever. No more kneading! I just used this wonderful machine to make 4 pounds of Pizza Geina dough without breaking a sweat. Add your ingredients, turn it on and it does the rest! It has a very powerful motor and every part of this mixer is excellent quality and well made. It is simple to lock in the mixing bowl and it is also a breeze to clean. Someone posted this helpful hint back in September -- might help the most recent reviewer who complained about the ingredients at the bottom of the bowl.

-----> This may help some of you - I read a review somewhere in which the reviewer gave this mixer a poor rating because it left dry ingredients in the bottom of the bowl - read the instruction booklet, people. It clearly states that if this occurs (or if the attachments scrape the bowl), there is an adjustment screw that raises or lowers the mixing assembly. This mixer is by far the best purchase I've ever made for my kitchen. It whips egg whites with ease, creates smooth creamy dressings, and takes the work out of kneading bread dough. However, my favorite part by far is the color, which draws comments from nearly everyone who enters my house.
