I recently purchased an Artisan model Kitchen Aid mixer for my wife as a Christmas present. After researching the product line and price comparisons in retail outlets I chose to purchase on-line primarily for price. I received the mixer in a timely manner and upon inspecting the product after delivery I noticed that the decorative chrome strip that is located in the center of the mixer head and encompasses the entire product had a large gap on both sides where it is mounted with two screws, one on either side at the rear of the mixer. The gaps were were considerable, (approximately 1/16 inch). Upon closer inspection I thought the screws had slipped in shipment but after loosening these and sqeezing the chrome inward I could only eliminate about 50% of the problem. I still found this to be unacceptable so I removed the chrome strip and enlarged the mounting holes an additonal 1/16 inch in diameter and reassembled. This corrected the problem and my wife was pleased with the mixer as it performed flawlessy on the first application. I am left wondering whether the great price from Amazon was based on a blemished product or this was just faulty visual inspection from a lazy Korean employee. I had not used the Kitchen Aid Artisan before I purchased it, but had seen many cooks use it on TV. No other mixer I have used comes close to this one. It will mix up whipped cream in just a few minutes, other mixers I have used take 10 minutes or so. With the way the mixer head rotates, you don't have to do anything except maybe scrape the bowl a few times. I made cookie dough with no problem, my old mixer would overheat on thick products like cookie dough and potatoes. I love this mixer. Until I bought this I had a cheap hand held mixer. The attachemnts are easy to put on and take off and are easy to clean. The bowl is big enough you can double your bread or cookie recepie. It's a little loud but who care's ? This mixer has made my life easier and it look's great on my counter. I never would have typically purchased such a "luxury" item, but Amazon was having this awesome sale and I got it for about $100 off and it was actually one of the more affordable stand mixers on the market (I had planned on buying the Hamilton Beach)! I received it right before the holiday baking season and boy did I give it a workouot. Kids and I enjoyed using it, and it looks very cool in my kitchen. As it sits out on the counter, it turns into just another thing to clean as it gets splattered with this and that during the day, but I still love it.
